Apple CEO Tim Cook stressed openness and cooperation during a speech at the annual China Development Forum (CDF) in Beijing on Saturday.

"We see that [openness] as essential. Not only for China to reach its full potential, but for the global economy to thrive," said Cook.

The tech-company leader said he is grateful for China's opening policy as it allows more companies to become a part of this market.

In his speech, Cook expressed his concerns on the challenges facing humanity in this age. Cook said that climate change is threatening the ecology. Poverty and inequality are hindering the potential of citizens and countries, and millions of people still do not have access to basic health care.

Cook also mentioned opportunities at the same time. He said there is a chance to continue to help millions of people out of poverty and give everyone the opportunity to learn.

He emphasized the importance of investment in education, and vowed to increase investments in education and training.

He quoted a line that Chinese President Xi Jinping said in Seattle years ago: “The fire burns higher if more people bring wood to it," and expressed his understanding.

"Working together, we can make tremendous progress, working together, there is no limit to what we are gonna achieve," Cook said in the end.
