INTRODUCTION OF THE CONFERENCE

　　The 2^nd Internet Conference of China will be held on 5^th to 7^th , Dec. 2003 at Beijing International Convention Center. The theme of the conference is 'Reevaluate the Internet & Advance into e Time'. The conference will be composed of different subject sessions, group forums, as well as an achievements exhibition of Internet industry that is from 6^th to 7^th Dec.  The national leaders from the relevant ministries, officials from information industry and other relevant organizations will be present at the conference. The senior professionals among network businessmen, software and hardware manufacturers, integrating businessmen will participate in the conference. Some famous Internet experts, scholars, the CEOs from both China and foreign famous enterprises, and other well-known professionals in Internet industry will also attend the conference. At the mean time, the Internet industry delegations from Japan, Korea, and other Asian-Pacific countries will take part in the conference.
　　The conference will be held in the situation that Internet economy begins to be resuscitating, the Internet industry and the traditional industries begin to be synergies, and the Internet industry chain begins to be reintegrated. During the conference, the development of Internet technology and its application, as well as the reintegration of the Internet industry chain will be further discussed. The conference will become a pageant of China Internet industry.

BASIC TENETS OF THE CONFERENCE

　　The objectives of the conference are to know and analyse the latest Internet trend & development, discuss the opportunity and challenge facing by domestic Internet industry after China joining into the WTO, study the deveropment & application of Internet technology, and exchange the experience on Internet industry operation  and management so as to propel the development of our country's Internet industry, improve the construction of advanced Internet culture, and build a healthy and prosperous China Internet industry.

INTRODUCTION OF THE FORMER CONFERENCE

　　The 1st Internet Conference of China has been successfully held on Nov. 25th to 27th, 2002 at Shanghai International Convention Center. Academician Zhou Guangzhao, Deputy Secretary of the Standing Committee of the NPC and President of China Association for Science and Technology, sent greetings to the conference. Wu Jichuan, Minister of MII, made important speech at the conference. Officials from Minister of Culture, Press Office of the State Council, State Council Informatization Office, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, Municipal Government of Shanghai all attend the conference.
　　About 1000 guests attended the conference, including members of ISC, representatives from domestic Internet industry, and guests from international organizations, such as ITU and Internet Societies from Japan, South Korea and other regions. Under the theme of 'Internet Application----Calling for Innovation', around 100 famous experts, scholars, entrepreneurs, officials from relevant government bodies, and foreign specialists made 97 theme and special subject speeches, including Internet development policy, E-government, E-commerce, urban informatization, broadband technology & construction, network & information security, Internet operating model, and next generation Internet. General meeting of ISC members also has been held during the period.
　　Press medium, such as CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, China News Agency, and People's Posts and Telecommunications News, all made a large amount of reports about the grand ceremony of the conference.

THE REVIEW AND PROSPECT OF CHINA INTERNET INDUSTRY

　　After experienced several years' process of exploitation, din and dreariness, the Internet industry has walked out of valley and get on a wise, practical and sane road. The whole scale of national network, network technology level, software and hard ware research and development, information resources exploitation and Internet services have been promoted quickly.  The Internet Industry reveals multiple trends, New type of business such as E-office, E-shopping, E-commerce, long distance education, E-payment, information searching, on-line entertainment, SMS, IP phone, and multi-media services appeared continuously.  The integration and refreshment between Internet and traditional industries is developing rapidly.  A totally new Internet industry chain is forming.  The Internet application has been upgraded to a new level.  By the end of 2002, the number of Chinese WWW web site has reached 370,000; the amount of computers accessing to Internet had reached 20,830,000; the number of people who can use Internet is 59,100,000.  Presently, the strategy of 'Information promote Industrialization, Industrialization develop Information', which carried out by the national government, will create great opportunities for the development of national Internet industry.  The integration and construction of Internet industry chain will become the foundation, core and trend for the developing of China Internet industry in the following years. Taking this opportunity, China Internet industry will certainly hit the ground running.
