ISC’s Information Accessibility Project Received the ITU WSIS Prizes 2017

On June 13, 2017, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) hosted the WSIS (World Summit on the Information Society) Forum 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland. At the WSIS Prize 2017 Ceremony of WSIS Forum 2017, ITU presented 90 awards to the nominated projects. At the Ceremony, Mr. Zhao Houlin, Secretary-General of ITU, awarded the China Government Information Accessibility Service System from the Internet Society of China (ISC) the Champion of WSIS Prizes 2017. Mr. Lu Wei, Secretary-General of ISC, attended the Ceremony and received the award on behalf of ISC.

With special support from UNESCO, special directed by the Cyber Administration of China (CAC), directed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD), the Ministry of Civil Affairs (MOCA), the China Disabled Persons’ Federation (CDPF), and the China National Committee on Ageing (CNCA), organized by the China Foundation for Disabled Persons (CFDP) and ISC, the China Government Information Accessibility Service System is a large public welfare project that based on independent innovation technologies of Chinese companies.

This System aims to build and improve the environment for exchange of information on government affairs, meet the needs of the blind, elderly, physically handicapped and low-educated people, and provide them the one-stop service on multiple sources and various terminal devices for government information. 
By the end of 2016, there are over 1,000 county-level governments have gained access to the System, and enabled more than 30,000 government websites to achieve information accessibility services.

At WSIS Forum 2017, ISC hold a thematic workshop, Promote the Development of Internet & Mobile Internet Information Accessibility, to share the best practice and discuss how to further facilitate narrowing the digital divide and creating an inclusive online environment for all.
